History of the Captain Morgan brand.

Rum is named after the historical figure of Captain Sir Henry Morgan - a Welsh buccaneer who in the 17th century became a vice-governor of Jamaica.

In 1944, Seagram began producing rum, named Capitan Morgan. The company's president acquired the Long Pond distillery, whose clients were the owners of the Levy Brothers pharmacy. They bought pure rum and added herbs to it, after which it was aged in barrels. President Seagram tasted the rum sold by them that he also bought the recipe rights from Levy Brothers.

In 2001, the rights to Captain Morgan were acquired by Diageo, while 2011 brought with him a new international version of Morgan Spiced.
