The name “Półtorak” directly results from the production process and the proportions of honey and water used. However, it also references another popular creation of medieval culture - the bastard sword (also infamously called the "bastard sword"), also known as the "hand-and-a-half sword". As you can guess, this weapon is featured on the label of Jaros Mead Półtorak in all its editions. It was a highly versatile and practical weapon, though it was regarded as a less honorable weapon compared to classic knightly swords.

The bastard sword featured a slightly longer blade than the classic one-handed sword, with a significantly longer handle that allowed it to be wielded with both hands. This hand-and-a-half sword combined the speed and lightness of a one-handed sword, while providing comfort during handling. Its lack of esteem came from the fact that a classic knightly sword had a short handle, adapted only for one hand.
