Brandy określa alkohol otrzymany z dojrzewającego w dębowych beczkach destylatu z winogron.
Samo słowo brandy wywodzi się z holenderskiego brandewijn oznaczającego "palone wino", czyli pierwotną nazwę uzyskiwanego produktu destylacji.
Jak podawać? Szlachetne brandy długo dojrzewające w beczkach nie powinny być z niczym mieszane. Natomiast młodsze roczniki, można zmieszać z wodą sodową lub użyć jako bazę do koktajli. Podając brandy w czystej formie warto zadbać o właściwe szkło, czyli znane koniakówki lub kieliszki kształtem przypominające tulipany - snifter.
Dla optymalnych wrażeń smakowych zaleca się lekkie schłodzenie trunku, jednak jeśli chcemy wydobyć pełen aromat brandy to powinniśmy je serwować w temperaturze i ewentualnie ogrzać kieliszek dłonią.
