Dodatek innych zbóż nie został sprecyzowany, co pozostawia producentom duże pole do popisu. Jest natomiast precyzyjnie określona zawartość alkoholu w świeżym destylacie na 160 proof (80%), oraz na 125 proof (62,5%) dla destylatu wlewanego do beczek. Minimalna zawartość alkoholu w whisk(e)y, musi wynosić 80 proof (40%). Pamiętajmy również, że dodawanie substancji smakowych i koloryzujących jest zabronione. Jeśli czas maturacji bourbona nie przekroczył 4 lat to informacja o jego wieku musi znaleźć się na etykiecie.
