Von Payne Black is a rebellious whiskey that stands out not just in quality, but also through its unusual ingredient — blackcurrant. The choice of this fruit has roots in its turbulent history. Blackcurrant was banned in the United States from 1911 due to concerns about it spreading a fungus threatening the timber industry. The ban lasted until 2003, giving the berry a "forbidden fruit" status that drew the attention of Von Payne Black's creators.
Instead of using synthetic flavors, the creators chose to use real, natural blackcurrants, resulting in a spirit that is not only unique but also full of authentic flavor. What’s more, blackcurrant gave this blended whiskey an unusual, red, almost blood-like color. Since the drink is inspired by punk, metal, and gothic subcultures—and proudly features a massive gargoyle on top—this color is a perfect fit.
