The word Karuizawa makes whiskey collectors' hearts beat faster. Karuizawa is a small, holiday town located near Tokyo, at the foot of the active Asama volcano, it is also the name of the distillery, which only after closing became the legend of the best Japanese whisky.

About the Karuizawa Distillery.

The distillery was established in 1956.
Geographical conditions reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, barley imported from Scotland and excellent quality water are the beginning of the success of Karuizawa whisky. The distillery produced relatively small volumes - around 150,000 liters per month, mostly for the domestic market. In 2011, Karuizawa definitively closed its activities, but its real treasures remained - sherry casks with aging, noble single malt whisky, with different maturation periods.

It is not known how many barrels are left, and it is not possible to predict when the last barrel of the Karuizawa collector's whiskey will end up in the bottles. The value of this whisky grew and grows all the time extremely fast and has gained the reputation of investment whisky all over the world, which is sought after and sought by ambitious collectors. Most of the most valuable bottles are now in private collections and even with considerable financial resources it is not easy to buy a bottle of the legendary whisky.

How was the Karuizawa Koi whisky set for collectors created?

The unique set consists of 3 exclusive single malt whisky bottles from the Karuizawa distillery with a capacity of 700 ml each. The whisky produced in 1999-2000 was bottled with the strength of 46%, 48% and 55% of alcohol in the amount of only 35 bottles of one type. Designed by eminent designers, bottles made of special glass, decorated with a painted image of a Japanese ornamental carp - koi are packed in an oak box inspired by Japanese art.

What does the name Karuizawa Koi Whisky mean?

In Japanese, the word koi has 2 meanings - the first is decorative carp, the second is spelled with a different kanji is love.
Koi carps, grown in the ponds of classic Japanese gardens, are not only a decoration, they also have a rich symbolism in the cultures of the Far East. Koi are a symbol of perseverance, the pursuit of excellence, happiness and prosperity. They also occur in pairs as well as a lasting and happy relationship.

The breeding of koi carps in Japan is an elite occupation, and the most beautiful carp have long, documented pedigrees - similar to, for example, Arabian horses. The prices of koi champions are in the range of $ 2 million. Koi carps are also a common theme in Japanese and Chinese art.
